Programmes at the intersection of three perspectives
Research on creation
This theme produces work that can be regarded as fundamental research, resulting in “traditional” academic works (articles, individual or collective works). A specific feature of this research theme is that it considers all of the ecosystems in which works take part.
Therefore, an aesthetic analysis of literary, artistic, performing and film works is accompanied by an exploration of both the upstream side of creation (observing creative processes and conditions for producing and disseminating works in their political, economic, sociological and technical dimensions) and the downstream side (exploring reception processes, whether the work is used as a means of understanding the contemporary world, or is archived, considered part of a heritage or included in various hermeneutic texts, historical writings and fictional or documentary works).
Research in creation
The research theme is particularly attentive to supporting work based on an experimental approach, whose exploratory dimension is carried out in close collaboration with or alongside practitioners. From an epistemological and methodological point of view, the projects carried out in this theme already benefit from the results of research on issues related to PBR (Practice-Based Research) and PAR (Practice as Research) conducted at the Performance as Research Observatory (Performance Lab, CPD/Idex UGA). Priority access to the wide range of original research tools offered by the Centre for Creation and Innovation (including offices and a 300m2 facility, film production chain and the “Archives of Creation” room), will accelerate projects that result in the production of knowledge and works co-constructed by researchers and artists.
Research-action
The research theme supports applied or translational research, where the question is how our expertise can be transferred beyond the world of research and education. Drawing on close ties with the professional world and partnerships with researchers in seemingly “unrelated” disciplines (such as computer science, cognitive sciences, medicine, geography), the research theme seeks to support high added-value research outside of the strictly academic field (e.g. software that can be used by performing arts professionals, databases and online search tools, professional meetings, creations in hospital settings or with newly arrived groups etc.).
